For New Bern’s special Tricentennial Celebration, we are presenting a very special production for all to enjoy. “As You Like It” is one of Shakespeare’s best loved and his most musical comedy. And to make it even more fun, we are giving it a Bollywood make over!

Come see singing, dancing, lovers, wrestlers, clowns and cross-dressers as they romp in the woods to an Indian beat. We aren’t worried about doing high Art! We are more interested in FUN!

CSF Challenges History!

Did you ever get stuck at one of Shakespeare’s history plays and wonder what the heck is going on? Who are all these people supposed to be? Why does it matter? And just what the heck is the big deal about St. Crispin’s Day?

Well, we’ve asked those same questions, too. So, we’ve decided to face the challenge head on. We’re going to read the history plays, in chronological order, with notes and summaries, so all of us historically-challenged folk can enjoy what others have seen in these great plays for the past couple hundred years.

We will start with Richard II as our reading for our Shakespeare Unplugged series this year. Next year we will follow with the Henry plays, etc., until we get through the War of the Roses.

Richard II has some of the most beautiful and moving speeches Shakespeare ever wrote. (“This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England...”) Dates: Wed. Aug. 11 at 7, & Sat. Aug. 14 at 2, at the Athens (Civic) Theatre. 414 Pollock St.

What really happened to Amelia Earhart?

Jinxed is new play that looks at the life of aviatrixes Amelia Earhart and Jackie Cochran. This exciting original play, written by award-winning playwright Stacey Luftig, will be read by company members and presented to the public for free. A discussion with the playwright will follow the Saturday performance. Dates: Wed. Aug. 18 at 7 & Sat. Aug. 21 at 2.
