Educational Programs
Because our mission is to make the classics accessible to all audiences, Carolinian Shakespeare Festival is constantly developing educational programs with the community in mind.

Shakespeare Decoded will focus on basic acting techniques, Shakespeare’s text and rhetoric and dealing with verse. The classes will take place on five consecutive evenings. This evening workshop will take place in June, time and location to be announced soon. For information click here.

Prologues - post-play discussions for adults
Festival directors, designers, and guest speakers meet with the audience members before the matinee on the Sundays to discuss the play and its production. These "Prologues" enhance the enjoyment of the play and are a great opportunity to glimpse behind the scenes.
Poetic Possibilities – in school workshops for middle schools
This artist-in-residence program for sixth graders focuses on poetic language and imagery. Students work “hands-on” using performance, technology and visual images in several fun workshops. This is a great introduction to poetry and the heightened language of Shakespeare. If you are a teacher, find out how we can bring this program to your school by contacting us with the button at the bottom of the page. To the right is a presentation exploring imagery that The Epiphany School 6th grade made to go with their recitation of a piece of Shakespeare’s poetry in this workshop. For information click here.
“The Zen of Shakespeare” – for adults NEW!
This inspiring workshop on the spiritual wisdom found in Shakespeare’s texts will be led by artistic director Mary McGinley. His works hold a mirror up to nature and reveal essential truths. As he wrote in Julius Caesar: “I only speak right on; I tell you that which you yourselves do know.” Group discussion and meditation will make this workshop enjoyable for all seekers of enlightenment.
